VDP Transparency Framework

Printing was always characterized by the large amount of data that needs to be processed. Achieving engine speeds requires powerful processing powers as well as proprietary advanced hardware. Now the performance bar is raised again. The printing world is embracing a new concept - VDP Transparency. It requires even higher processing powers. The major print-controller manufacturers develop complicated technology to accommodate for unprecedented processing requirements: 

    - Some manufacturers develop proprietary transparency-aware merging hardware,
    - Other manufacturers develop controllers containing hundreds of CPU cores,

vdptech is trying to solve this problem by developing the VDP Transparency Framework. The framework is intended to help the companies to embrace the new brave world of VDP transparency. Combined with ABC Compression/Rendering Technology it is directed to the ultimate goal of achieving the highest-quality rendering at the highest-speeds and at the lowest-cost.

The VDP Transparency Framework contains the following components:

• Transparency Viewer (binary delivery)
  Transparency Viewer is a friendly GUI application serving primarily as a tool for learning PDF Transparency. It allows playing with the transparency and to see the immediate visual effects.
  
• Transparency Viewer (source delivery)
  The source delivery of Transparency Viewer shows all the transparency calculations in floating and integer numbers. The implementation is very straightforward and allows easy modifications to suit further learning and experimental needs.
  
• MMX/SSE Framework
  This is the implementation that takes an advantage of MMX/SSE processors on Intel processors. Combined with ABC Technology, it is intended for achieving ~100ppm.
  
• GPU Framework
  This is the implementation that takes an advantages of hundred of processing cores inside the modern Video Cards. Combined with ABC Technology, it is capable of achieving 1,000+ ppm, though there are numerous caveats.
